“…Creating with intention is simply working with mindfulness in whatever we set our hands to. Whether it is creating a soup, a garden, a business plan or a painting. We are more present because we choose to be. Intentional Creativity is an approach to creating that yields greater access to who we are now and who we are becoming.”
Simply stated, Intentional Creativity is creating with an intention for a desired outcome or exploration.
That isn’t to say that we know what the outcome will be, often we are surprised and delighted by what has been revealed and discovered through the process.
As, Shiloh Sophia - the co-founder of Intentional Creativity says:
Intentional Creativity is not about being a talented painter or creator, it is about allowing for self expression and allowing the unconscious to become conscious. We are painting our formless insides into form on a canvas.
“Intentional Creativity is a choice to consciously access and express our stories and internal landscape through the creative process. It is a way to work with the places within, which we often don’t have language for…”
The process of Intentional Creativity gives you access to the hidden gems and jewels within. We all have a rich creative inner landscape, that is often buried behind, under, or hidden from view by our analytical left-sided brain. The Intentional Creativity process gives us access to our creative right-sided brain and our heart. From here we can bring the images, gems, self discoveries onto the canvas and into our stories to be lived into.
Intentional Creativity is not about being a talented painter. No painting experience necessary, just a willingness to explore yourself and have some fun in the process. It is about authentically expressing yourself and allowing your ideas, stories and images to rise to the surface.
True magic and surprise can happen with this process. I have healed parts of myself that I thought I would carry to the grave. I know that sounds dramatic, but there were events in my life that I felt unable to release. Using this painting process, I literally painted the old story out of me and onto the canvas to be transformed. Having freed up space within, I was able to create and paint a new life story.
“The Universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, then stands back to see if we can find them”
As the images on the side depict, we create an image layer by layer. We start with an intention of what we are wanting to explore - the theme of the workshop. Then layer by layer we explore the theme through paint, stories, guided imagery, sharing, celebrating, movement such as dance or yoga, community and eventually we have completed an image that carries the deep vibration of your exploration and the change we created.
“I love the power and beauty of the creative process. Through creativity we are able to transform, and step more fully into our greater selves. I love when women come together to create, build community, explore possibilities, laugh, and share the stories that are our lives. I believe - Magic happens when women gather”
